Love and Ethnology
The Colonial Dialectic of Sensitivity (after Hubert Fichte)
2019, Oct 18, Fri — 2020, Jan 06, Mon

The writer and ethnologist Hubert Fichte (1935–1986) is considered a poetic and documentarian realist precursor for new disciplines in Germany such as Queer Studies and Postcolonial Studies: In his writings, economic criticism, (homo-) sexuality and self-reflection become methodical tools. Exhibitions and translations of his novels into the languages of the places that Hubert Fichte traveled with his life companion Leonore Mau have stimulated reception of his work there for the first time.

In fall 2019 in Berlin at HKW the exhibition Love and Ethnology – The Colonial Dialectic of Sensitivity (after Hubert Fichte) will conclude the project. With works by Nadja Abt, Kader Attia, Gilles Aubry, Alvin Baltrop, Gabriel Barbi, Letícia Barreto, Michael Buthe, Coletivo Bonobando, Papisto Boy, Nathalie David, Claudia Del Fierro, Virginia de Medeiros, Mestre Didi, Avril Forest, Alair Gomes, Renée Green, Philipp Gufler, Ayrson Heráclito, Euridice Kala, Martin Kippenberger & Akim S. aus 44, Friedl Kubelka, Pedro Lemebel, Cristóbal Lehyt, Musa Michelle Mattiuzzi, Leonore Mau, Tiona Nekkia McClodden, Mario Navarro, Richard Oelze, Pan African Space Station, Lil Picard, André Pierre, Lili Reynaud Dewar, Daniel Richter and many more
